    When I asked Amanda about her vision for affordable housing in Vermont and her solution to solve the homeless crisis, she mentioned free, public housing. This solution radically empowers impoverished people and gets them out of poverty in surefire ways. Matthew Desmond, a sociologist who studied housing, has been advocating for public housing for almost a decade. It’s refreshing to see a candidate bring that up.     Because it's time to grow a worldwide wellbeing economy from the detritus of capitalism, and what is global always starts local. Direct, participatory democratic processes are part of what makes Vermont so unique, and those very practices of direct democracy, if supported, can strengthen us and provide an antidote to the harms our communities are experiencing. I feel it's no coincidence that Vermont is the place which birthed the figures of Murray Bookchin, Bernie Sanders, and the Institute for Social Ecology-- which partially inspired Abdullah Ocalan and the women's revolution in Rojava, carrying the slogan Jin Jiyan Azadi (Woman, Life, Freedom). Now it's time to bring the revolution home to Vermont, and implement a democratic-ecological systems change centered on care and caregiving. I appreciate that healthcare, schools, and housing are at the forefront of Amanda's policy proposals. On a personal level, I am autistic. I was diagnosed in childhood back in 2011. I have worked as a paraprofessional with fellow developmentally disabled people in different school settings, and the healthcare needs and educational rights of disabled people are always at the top of my mind. The rights and needs, lives and wellbeing of paraprofessionals are also always at the top of my mind. Many are living paycheck to paycheck, unable to afford moving out of abusive or cramped living conditions. My grandmother with Alzheimer's lives in a memory-care unit about 10 minutes south of my house. Although the staff there are very skilled and do their best to meet everyone's needs, they don't have the ratios they really need-- the additional staff they would be able to hire in a just world, where our tax dollars go towards caring for people here instead of towards imprisoning and killing people at home and abroad. Whether people know it or not, the question we're always asking in political situations is, "What will we do with our resources?" Both in terms of allocating resources which already exist, and using the resources we have to plan and build out our future. And the ideal answer to that question always depends on a person's values. But one thing that unites many across the political spectrum is the idea that a good politician should be familiar with the economy, should know how money and resource management works. This is because a politician's knowledge of the economy reassures us that our material needs will be met. Well, Amanda is an economist with decades of experience understanding how resource management really works, and how to direct resources towards goals based on shared values. That last part is the most important part. Amanda's knowledge of the economy is not just technical, it is also practical and ethical. What I see in her campaign materials is a passion for community self-management of resources, because people in communities care for each other in a way that no multinational corporation ever will. I am endorsing Amanda Janoo because I believe that she sees the the local ecosystem of Vermont and the global biosphere as relational and interconnected. I see that she values wellbeing over wealth. And I hope that when she is elected, the governing and administrative structures of Vermont as a state will become even more democratic, decentralized, deliberative, and participatory. I hope that we will begin living in a Vermont where we no longer need to campaign to elect single governors, because we will be building out the infrastructure of direct democracy and empowering local communities everywhere to take charge of our destinies and exhale as we care for each other and the land which sustains us.

    I support Amanda because she has vision- she is looking ahead to create a just state with housing, free primary care, and food security for all our residents. Amanda is willing to talk about a radically fairer tax system than the one we currently struggle with- one that taxes the wealthiest, and the affluent second home owners- reclaiming the huge benefit that these people have received from Trump's unfair tax cuts for the rich. I love her refusal to accept the current "managed decline," instead offering a wellbeing economy. I want to work for a candidate who is looking a the big picture- we need more than a change in leadership, we need someone to bring us together in a dire time. Amanda is not only a great speaker, she is a good listener- something we all need right now.

    I support Amanda Janoo because of this text I received from the campaign when I replied to their get-out-the-vote communication: "She doesn't want to cut small schools, and really wants to support solutions to cut education costs with our jeopardizing the quality of education." Act 73 was a tripartisan disaster pushed by Governor Scott and then passed against the howls of many Vermont residents, especially those of us in rural districts with smaller schools. For years, the request to Montpelier was for help in maintaining our districts, local control, and a rural way of life; instead they threw rural Vermont into a state of chaos and uncertainty, sometimes pitting towns against each other. All of this happened with great haste resulting in a bloated bill that some legislators had no time to read and which analysis at the time said would not deliver on financial promises being made. It was a bill passed to address a manufactured crisis by the governor, not thoughtful or wise decision-making. Damage has already been done by the mindless passage of Act 73 and we don't know how much of this we can undo. Putting someone sensible in the governor's chair, who is also an expert on economics, is what Vermont needs right now.
